7 pin Midi cable extender

I am looking to get a MEGX and connecting to my GT16. Phantom powering the GT from the MEGX and using the tuner function in the MEGX to be displayed on the GT16. I understand that there should be no other device between the MEGX and GT for the tuner function to work.
The MEGX will be rack mounted. I would like to run a 7 pin midi extender cable from the MEGX to the back of the rack to make the connection setup easier.
I can't see this will be an issue, but wanted to check. Has anyone done this? Will this work OK?
Thanks

Yes, that will be fine, I see people do that frequently. Just make sure that the extender is wired properly - pin 1 to pin 1, pin 2 to pin 2, etc. The bare wire in the cable should be used to connect pin 2 to pin 2, and the shell of the connector - especially the one that's mounted to the rack - should not have any wire connected to it.

Thank you!
Best-Tronics makes excellent cables, and they can do a 7 pin MIDI cable to your specified length.
