Mastermind PBC Firmware / Editor 5.3.1 Release

I updated from 5.2.1 to 5.3.0 via the editor, it is now stuck at "no Preset" and I can't connect the editor anymore.
I tried redownloading the firmware and upload it while booted in the bootloaded holding button 1+3 with the same result.
Downgrading to 5.2.1 also gives "no Preset"
anything else I can try? or did the update brick it?

update: I did the downgrade to 4.7.0 trick, that got it factory reset, then upgraded to 5.3.0 and it converted ok. Now I need to see if it will restore my backup

update 2: Restoring the backup gets me back into "no Preset"

update 3: Reverted back to 5.2.1 (via 4.7.0 factory reset) and was able to restore the backup just fine..

In your 5.3.0 settings, turn turning on Ignore Incoming PCs for every device.

Posted in another thread but putting this here just in case as i think its a bug. i set "clock pulse limit" to 10 and also have a button on my pbc that i can tap tempos into on the fly. This button no longer works when clock pulse is on.
Version 5.3.1 now available, details are above

Are you trying to tap a tempo similar to the one it was already running at? If so, does it work if you try to tap a significantly different tempo?

doesn't matter what tempo i tap in it never taps to the proper tempo. the number on the pbc and the timeline led are always different. as soon as i turn off clock pulse limit this issue is fixed.

Ok, I'll look into it.
Hey Ron i think i may have fixed this. by selecting the Ignore preset tempos on the global section. I don't use preset tempo all of them are set to song so I'm not sure why this works but it seems to send correct tempo now with this option selected.

Is this a known thing? I ran into the "no preset" thing updating to 5.3.1. I was able to just downgrade to 5.0.0 and everything started working again. I'm not sure I even know what Ignore Incoming PCs means.

This change mentioned in the release notes above, but probably not as clearly as it should be. I'll try to amend that.

Here's an example:

Lets say you've set up a Timeline on channel 3. As of 5.3.0, when a PC message comes into the Mastermind's MIDI input on the Timeline's channel (3), the Mastermind will now respond to that PC. For example, if it receives PC 27 on channel 3, it will act as if you just selected preset 27 on the Mastermind. This allows other pedals to act as secondary MIDI controllers, which can be useful in some cases.

Turning on Ignore Incoming PC will prevent this from happening. Ignore Incoming PC used to default to Off for all devices, but now it defaults to On, so that this feature isn't active unless you specifically ask for it. However, we don't change the setting in existing setting files, so you'll have to turn on Ignore Incoming PCs manually for all of your devices.

I try to avoid cases like this where a new feature may cause problems for existing users, but sometimes I don't have good choices. Ignore Incoming PC / CC should have always defaulted to On in the past, but until now it didn't really matter - only a couple of devices like the Axe-Fx used to use that setting.

Okay, that makes sense, and sounds like what I was seeing. As soon as I updated to 5.3.1, the mastermind started clicking and flashing and repeatedly showing "no preset." Updating my setting config to a 5.3.1 compatible one did make the cycling stop, and the mastermind definitely still knew the presets where there cause my bank buttons would still show the preset names, but as soon as clicked on any of them, I'd get "no preset" in the window. I assume "Incoming PC" would mostly be useful on an unused channel? (And presumably the cycling here is caused by having all the devices set to forward midi or to use midi thru such that any midi pcs send by the mastermind were also received by the mastermind?)

No Preset means that the incoming PC called up a preset that doesn't exist. You're probably in setlist mode, which would mean that it's interpreting the incoming PC as calling up a song and/or preset that isn't in the setlist. (For example, 4th preset in the 3rd song, but the 3rd song only has two presets.)

The use case that started all this was a user that had an HX Stomp or something like that. He wanted to be able to change presets either on the HX or the PBC and have them stay in sync. It only works well if you have a one-to-one mapping between presets on the PBC and the other pedal.
